Connectivity within isolation: dispersal, population genetics, and conservation of the rarest European damselfly

چکیده
Coenagrion hylas (Trybom, 1899) has a very limited distribution in Europe, lives small, isolated populations, rather specialised habitat demands, and is regarded as the rarest damselfly of Europe. Using combination capture-mark-recapture population genetics, we aimed to evaluate state populations Tyrolean Lech valley test whether exuviae from this species are usable DNA source. was extracted mid-leg tibiae genotyped with species-specific microsatellite markers. The results capture–recapture genetic methods were congruent. an unexpectedly high tendency disperse within valley, covering distances up 30 km, longer than other damselflies, average longevity 12 days maximum lifespan at least 40 days. Low inbreeding coefficients low ranges differentiation across sites provide evidence panmixia, no clear signs inbreeding. current size estimated 1150 males based on recapture data. We further demonstrated that deliver sufficient amount DNA, which will be important for future monitoring. Although C. currently shows appropriate viability most sites, our study indicates management measurements, such creating stepping stone habitats, crucial maintain status. Given dispersal capability species, measurements seem promising.

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...

15 صفحه اولLarval dispersal and marine population connectivity.
Connectivity, or the exchange of individuals among marine populations, is a central topic in marine ecology. For most benthic marine species with complex life cycles, this exchange occurs primarily during the pelagic larval stage. The small size of larvae coupled with the vast and complex fluid environment they occupy hamper our ability to quantify dispersal and connectivity. Evidence from dire...
متن کاملPhylogeography, population genetics and conservation of the European red deer Cervus elaphus
1. During the Last Glacial Maximum, European red deer Cervus elaphus occurred in refugia in Iberia/southern France, Italy, the Balkans and the Carpathians. Most of Europe, including large parts of the east and north-east, is now inhabited by red deer from the western lineage. The eastern lineage is largely confined to south-eastern Europe; a third lineage comprises Sardo-Corsican and Barbary re...
متن کاملPhylogeography and conservation genetics of endangered European Margaritiferidae (Bivalvia: Unionoidea)
Margaritifera margaritifera and M. auricularia are among the most endangered freshwater mussels in the world, and the only species of the genus found in Europe. Our genetic study explores allozymic variability (27 loci) and differentiation at the mitochondrial sequence level (partial COI and 16S rRNA gene sequences). The Spanish M. auricularia population showed genetic parameters of variation t...
